A complex design program and thorny regulatory requirements created multiple challenges on this compact, urban-scale beach project.  The dated swimming pool underwent an adaptive re-use and renovation, rather than a complete demolition.  The concrete grid driveway and front walk provides functional flexibility, and also conserves impervious coverage.  Custom details such as the cedar fence, the asymmetrical trellis, and the Ipé deck are all hallmarks of the progressive design.  Plants were selected for both seasonal interest and tolerance of the harsh beach environment.
