This new residence was constructed on a large lot with an extensive outdoor program. Buildings were positioned to take advantage of existing views, establish privacy from neighbors, and preserve important natural features. Activities of the Owner’s young children contributed to the exterior design planning, with spaces allocated for a soccer field and an outdoor play set. The structure of the garden reflects the structure of the home – walls and grade transitions form static boundaries between outdoor rooms, while the distinctive layers of lush plantings produce a softer backdrop. Many different plantings were selected and used in specific combinations, to provide a succession of seasonal bloom and attractive foliage texture. The pool and spa are the focus of a main outdoor entertainment area, while the Koi pond creates a fanciful, soothing pause along the wandering garden paths.
