On a serene four-acre coastal property in Rumson New Jersey, a Pennsylvania-style bank barn serves as a recreational retreat with a chef’s kitchen, wine tasting room, pottery studio, game room, and spa. Descending from the barn, a series of terraces include several lounge areas, fire places, and an outdoor kitchen. The spa below opens up into a private garden room with overflowing plantings, a bubbling fountain, and a minimal sculpture piece. Throughout the site, reclaimed materials such as large stepping stones and vintage collectibles add a sense of heritage and weight. With limited space and a desire to keep a level of rustic charm and tranquility, a fully functional tennis court is tucked into the lush landscape with a softened stone wall and carefully designed fencing for safety and ease of play. On axes between the main residence and thriving vegetable garden, a greenhouse serves as a hub for hands on family engagement. Beyond this garden, fruiting trees, berry bushes, and herbs weave through native grasses, perennials, and flowering shrubs, creating an edible tapestry for both humans and wildlife. The layered textures, shifting seasonal colors, and meandering paths of the meadow gardens encourage discovery, movement, and quiet reflection. From rest and relaxation to a hard day’s work in the garden, this space is a true sanctuary, inspiring mindfulness and joy.
